The last week of December rolls around, and the lists of all the things we’re going to tackle in the new year start to form.
Health and fitness are often at the top of that list.
If you’re someone who is starting a new journey in 2023 or just need to be more consistent, here are some tips to help!
Be Realistic with Your Goal Setting.
If you currently have no fitness routine, make your goal 3 days a week to start.
Telling yourself that January 1 you’re going to the gym 5 days a week is not realistic for most. And if the first week you go four days, you feel like you failed. That is sure fire way to stop going.
Go three days for a month, then 4 days the next month and try for 5 by spring… Guess what?
By then? You have a routine already in place.
Grab Some Accountability Buddies.
Find some friends or group classes to keep you going. When you have people on the same mission as you, it’s easier some days to keep going.
Keep It Fun!
If that sound of running 3 miles a day sounds terrible, don’t do that. There are many different forms of fitness out there; find something that you look forward to!
Boredom is one of the top things that ends anything. Keep it fun and fresh! For most people, the fact that CrossFit is constantly varied is what keeps them coming!
Make It Measurable.
Doing something where we can see actual progress is a huge motivator! Being able to lift heavier weights one week than you did before, running your miles a little faster than you did last month.. It’s satisfying to see yourself get stronger and faster, and for sure will keep you in the game!
Avoid Food Rules.
Don’t try to follow anything with strict rules. Stay away from fad diets that restrict or eliminate entire food groups, diets that have a timeline like 21 or 75 days and “detox” anything.
Eating whole foods mainly from the ground, not processed, limiting sugars is a great start. Try changing WHAT you eat, followed by figuring out how MUCH you should be eating.
Any time you completely restrict yourself from a thing, you will constantly want that thing.
Balance is key!
Don’t Diet. Eat.
Hire a Professional.
Find a coach for some help and daily accountability.
If you’re someone who has the resources to do so, we have some pretty amazing coaches for both fitness & nutrition that can keep you going for more than those first few months! Finding people that can help you reach your goals is super helpful on this journey.
Make your health and fitness a new year’s resolution for the last time!
